About Escapes
Escapes offers everyone the opportunity to discover their local independent cinema — for free!Escapes is a nationwide initiative supported by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, designed to make cinema more accessible to all.
Offering regular free screenings at over 100 independent cinemas across the UK, Escapes opens doors for new audiences to experience a variety of films, from previews of new indie gems through to revisiting beloved blockbusters and discovering thought-provoking documentaries.Escapes exists to open up cinema to new audiences across the UK.
We’re proud to share films that reflect a wide range of voices, stories and perspectives. Representing diverse and underrepresented audiences through film is a core priority for our programme.
Inclusivity and Accessibility
We celebrate cinema as a safe and welcoming space for all. Inclusivity and accessibility are at the heart of Escapes. We have a zero tolerance policy for offensive behaviour or discrimination of any kind. This is deemed to be (but not limited to) racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism and/or any form of intersectional discrimination where these combine.
All our films are shown with on-screen descriptive subtitles and optional audio description (AD provision is subject to site capability). Our team is ready to connect audiences with venues to support any access requirements.
